Dr Mei Xing became qualified medical doctor in 1985 after 5 years of training at Guiyang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). She furthered her integrated medicine knowledge at Beijing’s Dong Zhi Men Hospital, the first affiliated Hospital of Beijing TCM University in 1989, and the No. 301 General Hospital of People’s Liberation Army in Beijing in 1999. Soon after which, she gained her MSc degree from Chengdu TCM University before returning to Guiyang where she worked as an Associate Professor and medical Consultant in Endocrinology.

Dr. Xing came to the UK in 2000, and was appointed in 2001 by the University of Salford as a lecturer in TCM. By 2005, she was running Salford University’s BSc (Hons) TCM- Acupuncture programme as programme leader, where she was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2006. She also initiated the MSc Traditional Acupuncture programme later on.

Over 25 years career in Chinese medicine educator, she has made her great contribution to acupuncture profession as a lecturer, a tutor, a member of British Acupuncture Accreditation Committee, a programme leader and an external examiner for several teaching institutes in the UK and abroad. Mei has never stopped using her worthy skills to help her patients as well as dedicating herself into evidence based practice by doing acupuncture research as she has witnessed the huge benefit of integrating complementary medicine to the lifestyle of general public for in particular preventative purposes and rehabilitation support.

Dr Xing will continue to engage with research activities for evidence based practice to make the most of her academic background. Her research interest lies in the evaluation of the effectiveness of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, as well as looking into the best methodology for complementary medicine research. She is also very interested in exploring different cultural impact on health care and she is developing training courses for health care practitioners.
